For the third time this year, a Saluki has won a national award.
Wide receiver Bryce Morris was named the Sports Network Special Teams National Player of the Week Monday. Morris and quarterback Paul McIntosh were also named as the Missouri Valley Football Conference special teams and offensive players of the week.
Morris blocked a punt late in the second quarter of the Salukis 33-0 victory over the Indiana State Sycamores Saturday. Teammate Beau Hoffman recovered the punt and returned it four yards for a touchdown. Morris also finished the day with four catches for a career-high 80 yards.
Morris is the third Saluki to have won a national player of the week award this season. Korey Lindsey and Deji Karim have previously won the defensive and offensive player of the week awards, respectively.
Morris and McIntosh’s conference honors make it four straight weeks that an SIU player has been named a player of the week. It is also a league-leading ninth time this season a Saluki has been named to the honor.
McIntosh is coming off his first career start for the Salukis, as he threw for 159 yards and ran for 57 yards and two touchdowns in SIU’s win.
