Whoever came up with the saying that all good things must come to an end is foolish. Not in the literal sense, because it is true ... mostly because all things eventually do come to an end. However, no one wants good things to come to an end because it seems the only things that don't come to the end are not good things.
I digress.
After penning my final column for Thursday's paper, I realized I was going to miss the many eyes that glanced over the words that I wrote, then edited by a higher power, then were re-written to satisfy my editors.
So, with my final act, I'll link you to my pet project: The Big Dead Sidebar (TBDS for future reference).
TBDS started about a year ago and was the brain child of myself and former Assistant Sports Editor Matt Hartwig. We wanted to provide readers with a different voice outside of straight sports reporting. The site has grown from a two-bit operation to a two-and-a-half bit operation with information, photos and laughs. We even have a staff of sports writing future journalists to cover the Midwest sports scene.
For future reference, even though I will likely be gone from the southern Illinois region, I plan on continuing my coverage of Saluki athletics, if only because of my ties to my soon-to-be alma mater. And, because it was an enjoyable beat to cover. I feel as if I've cultivated enough friends and sources to help me out with my up-and-coming site.
I guess here is where I'll put my thank you to the editors and higher-ups of the Daily Egyptian who supported TBDS as my side project while giving me the education necessary to be a half decent sports writer.
While my days at the DE are over, I hope you tag along for the ride over at TBDS (which constantly links DE stuff). Because, if I am one thing, it is a shameless cross-promoter.
And, as always: Stay classy, Carbondale.
