Blog Wars: SIU vs. BCS

The SIU football team will face Big 12 powerhouse Missouri in 2012, representatives from the schools said Wednesday. What BCS team would you like to see SIU face in the future?

Answering this question is fairly tricky. While it would be cool to see SIU play a BCS power house such as USC or LSU, there is a bit of a problem with those teams: SIU wouldn’t win. I am a simple man who has but one desire: to see the Salukis win. So what better team than the hapless Washington Huskies? Coached into the ground by former head coach Ty Willingham, the Huskies managed an impressive zero wins in the 2008-2009 season. What better team to have SIU play than the worst possible? A win is a win, baby.

For this, I need to think of a prestigious team that the Salukis could actually compete against. What better choice than the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame? The former powerhouse is a shell of their former selves, yet they still have name recognition and a ridiculous television contract. What better than to see the Salukis beat the Irish in front of Touchdown Jesus and a nationally televised crowd?

Ideally, I’d like to see SIU take advantage of an opportunity to kick a prestigious program like Miami when its kind of in the dumps, but the problem is these games are scheduled too far in advance and the opportunity would be missed. So, I nominate Duke.

Unlike my cowardly coworkers, I say bring on the best. I think the Salukis should take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Many college football fans are not fond of Nick Saban and I know there is just something about his face that makes me want to punch him square in the nose. So instead of me hitting him in the face, I think Dale Lennon and Co. should show the Tide how football is played. If Appalachian State can beat then-No. 4 Michigan, then there is no reason we can’t shock the world and roll the Tide.

I want to see SIU play Florida for the following reasons. 1) Road trip to Gainsville sounds like the kind of experience any college kid should go through. 2) I want to see of what’s all the hub-ub surrounding this thing called SECspeed. 3) I want to meet the pretty girls that Tim Tebow meets and go home with the ones he turns down. Judging by the talent he pulls in online blog pics, it looks like he dumps 10s to date 15s.
