"Get Nerdy" shows the effort of SIUC's Robotics Club as they work toward robot "Elevation." What single task would you most like to have a robot perform for you?
Rachel Snow
I want my robot to read for me and somehow the information to be in my head without me actually having to open the book. I have no will power to read, but if a robot did it for me, my life would be super.
Luke McCormick
I would like my robot to keep track of and remind me of everything I need to do during the day. Or, wait. I guess that would be a calendar and or daily planner. Those are just waaaay too much work though. Bring on the robot.
Allison Huber
No, no. The question is what task do I not want a robot to do for me. It (he, if you must) can cook, clean, do homework, take tests, go to work, entertain me with jokes, play movies, be a turn-table, clear my yard, garden, do laundry, take out the trash, drive long distances, give obedience lessons to my neighbors’ dog, grocery shop, pay bills, write Christmas letters, make me thin, exfoliate, rub my back, serve drinks, make coffee, kick my nicotine habit, tailor my clothes, create music for my (theoretical) band, auto-tune my singing, whiten my teeth, and make me a smoothie. I’m going to the beach.
Jeff Engelhardt
Robots were meant for one thing and one thing only: world domination. I would use my robot to become the king of the world. After uniting the world’s nations under my umbrella of absolute power, I would enjoy exactly 2.5 years of success. But then my robot would turn on me like all do and take over the world. A world under the control of machines would be a terrible thing and it would have been completely my fault. I would then call on the one person who could save us — Keanu Reeves. He would read over the script of the Matrix movies one more time and sacrifice himself to rid the world of machines (and his acting.)
