Luke McCormick remembers David Lynch's "Wild at Heart" in this week's Ten-Year Itch. What is the best Lynch film?

I love all his films, but I gotta give the edge to "Mulholland Drive." Not only did it introduce the world to the beauty that is Naomi Watts, but it introduced me to the world of David Lynch and his crazy, mind-bending antics. The encounter at the dumpster behind Winkie's remains one of the scariest things I've ever seen.

I'm definitely going with "Blue Velvet". Not because of the films overbearing uncomfortableness and overall awesomeness, but because it combines two of my favorite things into one scene. Dennis Hopper and PBR.

I say "Eraserhead" for the sheer and disturbing impact it has had on my psychological well-being since I viewed it for a film class a few summers ago. That hideous reptile of a baby coupled with a machinery soundtrack helped sear the film's meaning into my brain permanently: <insert anything you want about urban decay here>. Plus, it helped him get onboard "The Elephant Man," his second greatest film.

Probably Lynch’s first “normal” film (at least as close as he can get), “The Elephant Man” still shocked and thrilled audiences while being more accessible to a mainstream crowd. Lynch still employed his distinct style, but stripped back the antics a bit to slowly let the audience peek into the life of John Merrick. John Hurt is very convincing and lovable in the title role, largely because Lynch didn’t make him into one of the over-the-top caricatures for which he’s famous.
