Luke McCormick recognized the need for a second look at Lamont Dozier's seminal Motown album, "Peddlin' Music on the Side" in this week's Ten-Year Itch. Who do you think is the best Motown artist?

This question is nearly impossible to answer. Since I have to peg it down, I’m going with the greatest voice of all time — Marvin Gaye.
Along with his perfect vocals, Gaye also produced his best albums. He was a truly remarkable artist.

The Temptations are by far my favorite Motown artists. They have some of the greatest, most soulful songs in the history of the world. “My Girl” is my favorite song and will always be. It was the first song I ever learned the words to, and if you’re lucky, one day I will recite every word to you – with their patented dance steps too.

It’s got to be Sam Cooke. His “Twistin’ the Night Away” is perfect for a Saturday night, and I love “Workin’ on a Chain Gang.”

Although I’m embarrassed to say it now, the first time I ever heard of the word “Motown” was in a Boyz II Men song in elementary school. Since then, I’ve become well versed in the catalogue of Motown greats The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and The Supremes and, of course (can’t believe nobody has mentioned him) Stevie Wonder. But for the pure and somewhat unfortunate fact that the first time I ever heard of Motown greatness was from a band from Philly, I have to give them their proper respect.
