Elijah S. Lacy, 24, was arrested Sunday in connection with the two-year-old murder of Falon C. Taylor.

A Carbondale man was charged with the two-year-old murder of Falon C. Taylor after police found probable cause in the case, officials announced Monday.

Elijah S. Lacy, 24, was arrested Sunday in connection with Taylor’s murder, Interim Police Chief Jeff Grubbs said.

State’s Attorney Mike Wepsiec said Lacy is being held at Jackson County Jail with bail set at $1.5 million. He faces a first-degree murder charge, Wepsiec said.

Just before 12:35 a.m. Jan. 6, 2007, shots were fired at 417 E. Oak St., Grubbs said. Police found Taylor dead in one of the house’s bedrooms, he said.

Wepsiec said additional charges could be filed against Lacy at a later date.

Grubbs declined to comment on Lacy’s relationship with Taylor, but said additional arrests could be made.

Taylor was the mother of three children and had been visiting a friend when she was killed.

Before Monday’s announcement, Taylor’s death was one of four cold cases at the police department.

Grubbs said police continue to search for clues to solve the remaining cases — the 1992 arson of the former Pyramid Studio Apartments, which resulted in the death of five SIUC students, and the deaths of Connie Cole-Holmes in 1996 and Ryan Livingston in 2006.

“Families of the victims of these crimes still agonize over the loss of their loved ones,” Carbondale Mayor Brad Cole said. “They cannot rest until someone is brought to justice in these cases and the City of Carbondale and its police department are determined to bring justice to all of these families.”

Cole said people with information regarding these crimes should share it with the police by calling the department directly at 618-457-3200 or anonymously call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 618-549-2677. An anonymous Crime Stoppers tip service is also available at http://www.carbondalepolice.com.

What do retail theft got to do with her getting killed? It sounds like you need a check of Reality Reality. And dont nobody deserve to be killed!! Two little boys got no mother now and only lord knows the pain and suffering her kids friends and family feel. My cousin was killed two years ago and theres not even a half of day that go by that I dont think about him and I still cry. He wasn't a saint but he was no less human as me or you.

nobody is saying she deserved to be killed. But it is a reminder of why committing crimes and associating with other criminals can have tragic effects.

What was not mentioned of course was the fact that the victim had a history of committing retail theft. It sounded like this was a drug killing. Check her out on www.judici.com
