Seven people sustained injuries in a three-vehicle accident Tuesday, including three children younger than age 7.

Jody Endres, 37, of Elkville, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

A release from the Carbondale Police Department said the victims were transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, but none of the adults remain at that hospital, said Rosslind Rice, Southern Illinois Healthcare communications coordinator.

David Davis, 34, of Carbondale, was transferred to Barnes-Jewish Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition, said Kathy Holleman, a spokeswoman for Barnes. Davis works at Lentz Dining in Thompson Point.

Amy Lewis, 29, of Elkville, was treated and discharged Wednesday, Rice said.

Three children, ages 3, 4 and 7, were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to a release by the Carbondale Police Department. The department did not release the children’s names.

Without names, hospitals cannot release the condition of victims, Rice said, but Holleman said children from the accident were transported to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She could not specify which children or if all three were there.

Rice said she could not release the location of transferred patients. Endres and Jacqueline Feather, 46, of Carbondale, are not at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Barnes-Jewish Hospital or St. Louis University Hospital, spokespeople at the hospitals said.

A preliminary investigation revealed Endres’ pick-up truck rear-ended a car driven by Davis, both in the northbound lane, pushing Davis’ car into the southbound lane where a van driven by Feather struck it, police said.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County Ambulance Service, the Carbondale Fire Department and SIU Department of Public Safety assisted Carbondale Police in the investigation, which is ongoing.
