Haley Conner, an undecided freshman from Duquoin, donates blood often. “I always try to donate every eight weeks. I’ve been doing it since I was 16,” said Conner. The American Red Cross was host to a blood drive Wednesday in the Student Center.

Donations have been low lately due to an influx in student illness around campus. As the flu season settles over Carbondale, the available donors begin to dwindle as more students become ill. The American Red Cross does not accept donations if a person is ill.

Don Link, mole unit assistant at the Red Cross hopes for a good turnout. “I brought 36 bags, it would be good if we could get half,” said Link.

Jennifer Freeze, an organizer and recruiter for the blood drives, remains hopeful, as there are two blood drives coming up. “There’s a blood drive tomorrow at the recreational center in the alumni room from 11am to 5pm,” Freeze said. On Monday, November 9th, Lentz and Grinell hall will also be housing blood donations. Kevin Trujillo ~ Daily Egyptian
