SIUC's Wellness Center hosted a forum on "Alcohol Marketing: Stories and Myths" Thursday. What is the most effective alcoholic beverage ad campaign?

Sean McGahan
Anyone who has ever watched ESPN’s “Pardon The Interruption” is familiar with the simplistic campaign of its Jamaican advertiser of Red Stripe. Although the commercials have nothing to do with the beer itself, they make the brand seem laid back, loose and cool to share. For a beer that is extremely overpriced, held in deceivingly small serving sizes and frankly not that tasty, Red Stripe is a champion of effective marketing. Hooray beer.

The Miller Lite girls. I just have a penchant for girls. What can I say?

The best alcoholic ad campaign has to be the Clydesdales for Anheuser Busch. The iconic horses are a symbol of greatness. But if I had to go with funny, I've been recently impressed with Heinneken's advertisements. One being the commercial where the guy in between the bartender and the person ordering the beer steals the beer. The second one I just saw is where a group of guys and girls are showing their friends (also guys and girls) their new walk-in closets. The girls all scream when they see the girl's closet all full of organized shoes, shirts, etc. The guys do the same when they see that the guy turned his closet into a big cooler for Heinneken. Good stuff.

I’m going with Bud Ice and the penguins. Doobie, doobie doo.
