Olympic qualifying has not quite gone as planned for Saluki athletes. Junior jumper Bianca Stuart took the meet title while trying to qualify for the Bahamian Olympic team, but failed to hit the A-standard that would have put her into the games. Former thrower Brittany Riley finished 11th in the women's hammer throw and former runner Ty-Nica Davis reached the semifinals in the women's 800-meter run. Sophomore distance runner Dan Dunbar did not reach his goal of finishing the 10,000-meter race in under 30 minutes at the IAAF Junior World Championships. But that does not mean the whole trip was for naught. Dunbar finished in 19th place with a time of 30:51.… Post the First Comment

Many student-athletes attend SIU on scholarship, but the athletic department cannot foot the bill all by itself. Helping to offset those costs is the Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund, which is funded completely through donations. The fund is used to pay a portion of the total scholarship cost for about 350 student-athletes at SIU.… Post the First Comment

Isabel Madeira has a theory on why MVC women's swimming champion Missouri State dislikes her SIU swim team so much. They are scared. This time last week, Tyler Lairson was back in his hometown of Richmond, Ind., coaching little league baseball. This week, the former SIU infielder is back on the field for a first place professional baseball team.
