Chicago Cubs fans have had an undeserved arrogance to them for a long time.
The team doesn't win a World Series championship in 100 years and fans act like nothing is wrong. It makes me sick.
There's always next year? Give me a break. Next year has turned into never.
Cubs fans will be quick to mention that their team is better because they boast a better record this year.
Yet, Cardinals fans have made that argument for the better part of the last millennium and it has been shot down by the typical Cubs fan.
A tad hypercritical if you ask me.
Yes, it is 2008 and the Cubs will win the National League Central. They might even win a playoff series.
But there are plenty of other reasons that prove St. Louis Cardinals baseball is better.
Such as...
Well, for starters, how about championships.
Contrary to popular belief around Wrigleyville, winning is the point of baseball. And no other National League team has exemplified the winning persona more than the St. Louis Cardinals.
While the Cubs seemingly took a vacation from 1908 to now, the Cardinals have been busy racking up 10 World Series titles and 17 National League Pennants.
The Cubs are currently tied with the Florida Marlins in World Series titles and the Marlins spotted the Cubs a 91-year head start.
If the Cubs want to make a valid argument that they are better, just start winning.
The Players
The Cardinals boast some of the greatest names in baseball history.
Stan Musial. Bob Gibson. Lou Brock. Ozzie Smith. They were all better than their Cubs counterparts and most of them are better than the best Cubs player of all time.
The Cubs have Ernie Banks and that is it. Ryne Sandberg was a great player, but he's not tossed around in any conversation
discussing the best players ever.
The Cardinals are even better in the broadcast booth.
There is not a single
argument that would convince me that Harry Caray is better than Jack Buck. Jack Buck could run circles around Harry Caray.
The Beer.
Old Style? Are you kidding me? Give me a Budweiser.
The Fans. I'll admit that the Cubs have a bigger fan base. But the Cardinals have a smarter
fan base.
You go to Wrigley and half the crowd is not even paying attention to the game.
You go to Busch Stadium and half the crowd could tell will tell you who is warming up in the bullpen before you even ask them.
Cardinals fans are
knowledgeable. We are respectful. In essence, we aren't Cubs fans.
